The fine grinding of potassium iodide in lactose is a step in the manufacturing process of this homeopathic remedy. This step, called trituration, is followed by the dilution of the crushed substance in alcohol. During the next step, which is the dynamization between each homeopathic dilution, this solution is stirred in order to preserve and strengthen the therapeutic properties of the remedy. Kalium Iodatum, which is developed in this way, is a mineral-based drug of great use in the treatment of a large number of ailments.
Indications in Otorhinolaryngology
The indications for Kalium Iodatum limited to the ENT sphere concern a series of inflammatory conditions. These are inflammations of the sinuses, mucous membranes or nasal cavities. This remedy can be used to treat acute frontal sinusitis, which is characterized by diffuse pain in the frontal sinuses. It alleviates the manifestations of rhinitis dominated by an irritating watery nasal discharge. Colds, coryza or brain fever as well as hay fever are also part of the therapeutic field of action of this remedy. Its effectiveness also relieves patients facing itching or ulceration of the throat, inflammation of the larynx and enlargement of the thyroid gland (goiter).
Indications in ophthalmology
The prescription of Kalium Iodatum is recommended for the treatment of ocular inflammations, in particular those of the iris (iritis) and the choroid (choroiditis) in particular. The same is true when inflammation of the conjunctiva or acute conjunctivitis occurs, as well as keratitis, which is an inflammation of the cornea. This homeopathic remedy is also effective in treating edema associated with sharp pain under the eyelids or that affects the conjunctiva with the consequence of greenish and purulent secretions which are the obvious signs of chemosis.
Rheumatology indications
The healing properties of Kalium Iodatum are also used in the treatment of joint and bone pain. To this end, it should be remembered that the use of this remedy is recommended in the presence of cases of rheumatism particularly localized in the knee and which worsens at night or under the effect of heat. Thus, it is perfectly indicated for the treatment of knee inflammation, pain in the toes or periosteum. Chronic synovitis is also an indication of this remedy.
Recommended dosage in case of pathology of the ENT area
For children affected by nasopharyngitis with significantly irritating nasal and ocular secretions, the daily dosage is 2 granules of Kalium Iodatum 5 CH, 5 times for 2 days, then 3 times for 3 days in a row. The rest of the treatment and the modification of this dosage will depend on the improvement of the symptoms.
In general, in the presence of sinusitis, 3 granules of Kalium Iodatum 5 CH, 3 times a day, are recommended to patients. When it comes to acute sinusitis, characterized by suppuration, forehead pain, irritating secretions with tearing, it is advisable to take Kalium Iodatum 5 CH every hour.
If it is the treatment of an acute cold dominated by a heavy, burning and irritating nasal discharge with watery eyes and violent sneezing, it is advisable to take 3 granules of Kalium Iodatum 4 or 5 CH every hour. Against hay fever associated with congestion at the root of the nose and irritating discharge, these are 3 granules of Kalium Iodatum 5 - 7 CH to be taken 4 times a day.
Recommended dosage in case of ophthalmological pathologies
5 granules of Kalium Iodatum 5 CH 4 times a day, this is the dosage required against the conjunctiva. When this is accompanied by conjunctival edema and the eyelid with intense tearing, treatment should continue until the symptoms no longer appear. In this case, 5 granules of Kalium Iodatum 9 CH are taken 2 to 3 times a day.
Recommended dosage in rheumatic pathologies
Kalium Iodatum 7 CH is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis characterized by swelling of the joints, at a rate of 5 granules twice a day, preferably in the morning and evening. For synovitis, the treatment consists of taking 3 granules of Kalium Iodatum 9 CH before a meal.
