Also known as the "myopic herb", Euphrasia officinalis or Euphrasia officinale is a parasitic plant of the Scrofulariaceae family that grows mainly in Europe and Asia. Rich in chlorophyll and tannins, Eyebright is a plant that has many medicinal virtues and more particularly anti-inflammatory, astringent, analgesic and stimulating properties.
Recommended in the treatment of eye conditions since the 14th century, the Euphrasia owes its name to the Greek goddess Euphrosyne whose joy and good humor were legendary. While the remedy has long been used to improve vision, it is now used in homeopathy to treat infections and inflammations occurring in the eyelids and conjunctiva.
Used
to combat conjunctivitis and rhinoconjunctivitis, Euphrasia officinalis is also used to reduce tearing and the sensations of eye irritation that very often occur during allergies, coryzas or pollinosis. Euphrasia officinalis is particularly indicated when eye conditions are accompanied by swelling, burning, runny nose or abundant watery eyes. The remedy can also be used in case of edematous inflammation or photophobia if the pathology to be treated causes extreme eye pain as well as a fear of bright light. Finally, Euphrasia officinalis will be more specifically suitable if the symptoms worsen in the open air or if they worsen when the patient is exposed to pollution or cigarette smoke.
Recommended dosage in case of conjunctivitis
In case of infectious or allergic conjunctivitis, it is recommended to take 5 granules of Euphrasia officinalis 5 CH every hour until the tearing and the feeling of discomfort gradually subside. Nevertheless, if the symptoms persist, then it will be best to consult a doctor without wasting time.
Recommended dosage in case of rhinoconjunctivitis
In order to alleviate the eye irritation usually associated with rhinoconjunctivitis, it is advisable to take 5 granules of Euphrasia officinalis 9 CH four times a day until the symptoms disappear entirely. In addition, it is good to know that the remedy will also work if the pathology is accompanied by redness of the conjunctiva and a feeling of discomfort in the eyes.
Recommended dosage in case of allergic rhinitis
In case of allergic rhinitis, it is advisable to take 5 granules of Euphrasia officinalis 9 CH four times a day as well as 5 granules of Lung Histamine 9 CH morning and evening until the allergy decreases and the lacrimation finally disappears.
Caution
Because of its stimulant properties, Euphrasia officinalis is not suitable for patients with chronic liver conditions. Therefore, before starting any self-medication treatment, it will be preferable for subjects with liver disease to seek the advice of a doctor in order to rule out any risk.
