Photophobia is a sensitivity of the eyes to light during certain diseases. There are two causes of photophobia, either an eye or neurological condition, or meningitis or meningeal hemorrhage.
Symptoms of photophobia
Depending on the cause, the physical symptoms of photophobia are slightly different. Thus, inflammation of the cornea or iris leads to more or less intense eye disorders and pain as well as isolated tearing. If photophobia is caused by disturbances of consciousness, it does not cause tearing. Finally, if it is the consequence of meningitis, the symptoms are more aggravated because eye disorders and pain as well as watery eyes are also accompanied by headache, fever, nausea and vomiting.
Treatment of photophobia with homeopathy
In homeopathy, the most frequently used remedy to treat disorders caused by photophobia is Belladona, thanks to its many virtues. This remedy is recommended for photophobia caused by meningitis as well as photophobia caused only by eye inflammation. In the first case, Belladona is prescribed to treat all the symptoms of meningitis. In the second case, Belladona is also administered to treat all eye disorders such as photophobia but also congested eyes or dilated pupils. For conjunctivitis at an inflammatory stage, the Belladona 5 H, 5 granules, should be taken every hour. In the case of styes, taking the same remedy, at a rate of 5 granules every 2 hours, prevents the formation of pus.
Conjunctivitis can also be treated with homeopathic remedies other than Belladona. To relieve sudden photophobia, particularly caused by the wind, it is advisable to take a dose of 5 granules of Aconite 15 H. Apis Melifica 9 H is recommended to treat painful photophobia with the appearance of edema, the recommended dosage is 5 granules every hour. Euphrasia 5 H is prescribed in case of irritating tearing and Silicea 4 H is recommended for photophobia due to drafts. For both symptoms, the dose of each dose is 5 granules. Taking it every hour is recommended until symptoms disappear.
When to see a doctor in case of photophobia?
Proper care is necessary to relieve eye pain due to light and consultation with a doctor is necessary. A person who usually has eye problems or wears contact lenses and feels visual discomfort with light should see a doctor. If the discomfort has appeared suddenly or if it persists for several days despite the treatments administered, you should seek advice from the doctor. Diabetics are also encouraged to see an ophthalmologist regularly and to consult the doctor, especially if they experience eye pain or discomfort or decreased vision. All cases of photophobia accompanied by migraine and meningitis symptoms such as fever and nausea, require medical consultation.
