Treating skin and nerve conditions with Mezereum

Mezereum is a homeopathic remedy with multiple therapeutic virtues. It is mainly used to treat skin, bone and neuralgic conditions.

Mezereum is extracted from the shrub daphne mezereum, also known as gentile wood or pretty wood. Daphne mezereum is a member of the thymelaeaceae family and grows in the mountains of southern Asia and Europe. The flowers of the daphne mezereum are pink or red in color and have a pleasant smell. The mother tincture of Mezereum is obtained from the bark harvested before the flowering period. It contains mezerine, a pungent resin containing diterpene irritants, as well as daphnine, a heteroside that gives umbelliferone.

Dermatological indications

Mezereum is indicated for the treatment of skin rashes, eczema with purulent rashes, impetigos formed by vesicles or thick crusts containing a whitish liquid. It relieves itching with or without skin lesions. This substance is indicated to treat chickenpox and shingles as well as herpestic or postherpetic nerve pain related to shingles.

Mezereum is indicated for the treatment of bone pain aggravated by cold, humid weather, as well as pain felt at night and intensifying to the touch. Pain appears in particular in the back, neck, on the bones of the face, skull, nose, hips, knees and shin. The pain is intense and gives the patient a fractured sensation.

Mezereum is recommended to treat tooth pain caused by cavities as well as gums with eruptions and facial neuralgia. It is indicated to the patient who feels a continuous burning in the mouth, a pain that intensifies when touched, in contact with food and during the night.
