Hepatic colic is a consequence of gallstones. Also known as liver stones, these stones are caused by obstructions in the gallbladder. There are two types, the first of which, which are the most common, are due to biliary cholesterol agglomerates, measure 0.5 or 2 mm in diameter and are translucent. As for the second, which are black in color, they are generally called pigment stones and are made up of a mixture of bile salts and bilirubin.
Symptoms of hepatic colic
Gallstones do not go away. Sometimes they try to get out of the gallbladder and get stuck in the common bile duct. They then cause a liver attack or hepatic colic. The latter mainly manifests itself as a sharp pain localized in the upper abdomen and under the ribs, which can last for a long time or come back intermittently. If the attack does not stop after 90 minutes, it can cause acute cholecystitis.
Treatment of benign hepatic colic
To relieve benign hepatic colic, use Berberis Vulgaris 5 CH, Magnesia Phos 9 CH and Calcarea Carbonicum 5 CH at the same time. These homeopathic remedies must be taken alternately, at the rate of 3 granules, every quarter of an hour. If the attacks are repetitive, complete treatment with Sepia Biliary 7 CH and Cholesterinum 7 CH. The appropriate dose will be 5 granules of each remedy, to be administered to the patient once daily. But, if the pain is intense but disappears suddenly, suck on 3 granules of Magnesia Phos in 6 CH and three other granules in 7 CH, every hour. And if it is very sharp and worsens because of a strong emotion, take 3 granules of Chamomilla vulgaris in 9 CH every hour and place a hot poultice on the painful area.
Treatment of hepatic colic causing acute cholecystitis
It is possible that acute cholecystitis causes jaundice and requires hospitalization. This complication of hepatic colic can even be fatal. For this reason, it should be treated quickly by diluting 5 granules of Berberis vulgaris 5 CH, Lycopodium 7 CH, Calcarea Carbonica 7 CH, Belladona 7 CH, Arnica 5 CH, Ocimum Canum 5 CH and Pareira brava 5 CH in a glass of water. Shake the solution well and drink a teaspoon every fifteen minutes.
When to see a doctor?
If the patient has undergone homeopathic treatment but his condition has not improved although he has respected the prescribed doses, he is advised to go to a doctor. But, if his illness worsens and is accompanied by vomiting, chills and fever, even if he has not taken homeopathic remedies, he must be taken urgently to a doctor who will, in this case, be the only one who can determine the most appropriate treatment.
