Outbreaks of nasopharyngitis often occur during winter periods. Because of the benignity of this disease, the symptoms that characterize it last only about ten days at most. However, young children and people with weakened immunity should be properly managed, due to their sensitivity to the viruses that cause nasopharyngitis. Generally, the symptoms caused by nasopharyngitis do not persist, however, they can irritate people with this respiratory disease. To bring them more comfort and reduce the signs of this condition, various homeopathic remedies have been developed.
Symptoms
In nasopharyngitis, runny nose is the main sign of the disease. If at first the discharge is clear, it can then thicken and take on a greenish colour. The patient may also feel tingling in the nostrils. Frequent and heavy runny nose can irritate the nasal canal. When viruses reach the nose and spread to the throat, irritation and congestion of this area can occur and cause a mild cough.
The fever observed during nasopharyngitis can have different characteristics. The patient may either have a slight rise in temperature, i.e. a fever below 38.5°C that sets in slowly, or a sudden rise in temperature. Moving a person from a warm place to a very cold place can cause high fever. In some cases, the patient may feel intense thirst.
A sore throat, due to the invasion of this area by viruses, can be accompanied by difficulty swallowing, burning sensations or intense pain. The onset of this symptom can be sudden and complicated by inflammation. Severe thirst, fever and restlessness may be observed in the patient with nasopharyngitis. Drinking a hot drink can usually reduce the intensity of these sore throats.
Treatment of runny nose
When the runny nose is clear, frequent and abundant, Allium Cepa diluted with 5CH is the homeopathic substance of choice. When the lining of the nostrils is irritated by frequent discharge, Arsenicum Iodatum diluted to 5CH is recommended. The dose of these remedies is 3 granules to be taken 3 times a day. Placed under the tongue, the granules will be more effective. When the discharge is greenish-yellow, Kalium Bichromium diluted to 9CH is recommended. When the nostrils are blocked by abundant phlegm, Mercurium solubilis diluted to 5CH is recommended at a dose of 5 granules to be taken 3 times a day.
If
the fever gradually rises to stabilize at 38.5°C and the other symptoms of nasopharyngitis are not very disabling, Belladonna 5CH is recommended. Three times a day, the patient must take 5 Belladonna granules. When a sudden change in temperature is the cause of fever and it is low, Ferrum Phosporicum diluted to 7 CH is also effective. As for Aconitum napellus 7CH, it is recommended in case of high fever, profuse sweating and intense thirst. The effective dose is 5 granules to be taken 3 times a day.
Treatment of sore throat
When the sudden cold is the cause of the sore throat, Aconitum is recommended. Dilution to 7CH or 15CH is recommended as soon as the sore throat is contracted. The patient will have to take 5 granules, 3 times a day. In addition, Belladonna is also the appropriate remedy in case the sore throat is sudden, interferes with swallowing and is accompanied by fever. This homeopathic product is recommended from the first day of onset of nasopharyngitis. The recommended dose is 5 granules of Belladonna to be taken 3 times a day.
When to see a doctor?
When the child with nasopharyngitis is less than 3 months old and has a rise in temperature, it is recommended to go to a doctor. When the sick child has frequent and abundant diarrhoea, it is also recommended to take him to a health centre as soon as possible. In addition, in adults, when the fever exceeds 39°C or when the fever episode is dragging, it is essential to go to a doctor.
