It results from bacterial and viral factors, however, keratoconjunctivitis can also be the consequence of the complication of conjunctivitis. Keratoconjunctivitis is a zoonosis, meaning that it is transmitted from animals to humans and vice versa. This contagion occurs through contact with the tears and nasal and vaginal secretions of the carrier of the disease. However, insects such as flies also spread this disease. In the long term, keratoconjunctivitis can lead to blindness if left untreated.
Symptoms of keratoconjunctivitis
Keratoconjunctivitis begins with itching in the eyes, followed by burning and dryness in the cornea. Subsequently, the eye swells and becomes very sensitive to wind, smoke and light. Vision may become opaque while possible purulence may appear. This purulence explains the yellowish colour of the eye, characteristic of keratoconjunctivitis. However, this color turns pink when the subject begins to heal. In addition, redness may also appear in the eye in the case of keratoconjunctivitis.
Homeopathic remedies for the treatment of keratoconjunctivitis
Apis mellifica are a remedy of choice in the homeopathic treatment of keratoconjunctivitis. Indeed, this drug is effective against several forms of this disease. The recommended dosage is 2 granules of Apis mellifica 5 CH 5 times a day for 2 days, followed by 2 granules of Apis mellifica 5 CH for 3 doses per day for 6 days.
Euphrasia officinalis is recommended when keratoconjunctivitis is accompanied by photophobia. In this case, administer 5 granules of Euphrasia officinalis 9 CH, 2 or 3 times a day, until symptoms resolve. In case of burning pain in the eye, it is recommended to use Arsenicum album 9 CH with a dose of 5 granules, 2 to 3 times a day, until the symptoms disappear.
