Scheuermann's disease is a common pathology that mainly affects adolescents as they grow. It is a lesion of the vertebral cartilage due to insufficient blood in these regions.
Scheuermann's disease, a vertebral deformity during growth
Insufficient blood supply to the vertebral cartilage is one of the main causes of Scheuermann's disease. Indeed, the latter are poorly irrigated, deteriorate and no longer play their role as a shock absorber, so that pain is felt in the vertebrae. The disease is manifested by the curved appearance of the back, especially at the time of puberty. The spine becomes deformed and the patient feels pain.
Scheuermann's disease affects the spine, most often in the chest, and manifests itself as pain between the shoulder blades, especially after prolonged standing or sitting. The problem is aggravated by certain factors such as obesity or the practice of a sport that is unsuitable for the age or build of the child. Sometimes, it is the carrying of too heavy loads that causes damage to the vertebrae that are still in the growth phase.
Symptoms of Scheuermann's disease
Scheuermann's disease can sometimes be asymptomatic and is only detected incidentally, during an X-ray prescribed for other reasons. The most visible manifestation of the disease is a round back, sometimes associated with a bump. Back stiffness may also be felt. The most common symptom is increased pain after physical education classes or after sitting for long periods of time in class, for example.
Homeopathy against Scheuermann's disease
Particularly indicated for treating cell and tissue diseases where the presence of calcium and phosphorus is important, Calcarea phosphorica, which is a white powder containing various kinds of phosphates, is recommended for painful dorsal kyphosis. Thus, the patient should take Calcarea phosphorica 30 CH in one dose per week for 6 months. The method of administration is oral and the granules are to be melted under the tongue. Note that this medication should be taken outside of meals and should not be combined with tobacco, mint or coffee. In the presence of inflammatory rheumatological diseases, Silicea 15 CH should be added at a rate of one dose per week, for 4 months.
When to see a doctor?
If the back hurts, especially from the percussion of the spinous vertebrae, a visit to the doctor is necessary because it allows Scheuermann's disease to be diagnosed in time and the appropriate treatment to be carried out. Similarly, when hyperextension does not reduce kyphosis, medical consultation is advised.
