Sialorrhea is a disease that can be caused by pregnancy or by lesions in the oral mucous membranes. Taking certain medications can decrease the swallowing reflex and cause sialorrhea.
Presentation of the pathology
Sialorrhea is a discharge of saliva from the mouth. It can be caused by facial paralysis because the lips no longer hold saliva. Sialorrhea can also have other origins such as acute inflammation of the epiglottis which causes discomfort when swallowing.
Symptoms of sialorrhea
Sialorrhea is manifested by saliva discharge. In children, it can cause skin irritation on the chin. Adults with Parkinson's disease may have symptoms of sialorrhea. In this case, sialorrhea is not due to excessive secretion of saliva but to a dysfunction in swallowing. Sialorrhea can cause language problems or dehydration.
Homeopathic treatments
Sialorrhea can be treated with the homeopathic remedy Jaborandi from 4CH to 9CH. If sialorrhea occurs during a pregnancy accompanied by nausea, the recommended homeopathic remedies are: Helonia, Granatum and Lacticum acidum. Taking Staphysagria is also effective in cases of pregnancy accompanied by vomiting. If sialorrhea is caused by local inflammation, a salivary stone or neurovegetative dystonia, Ignatia 5 CH is the appropriate remedy. The treatment consists of taking 2 granules of Ignatia, 3 times a day. This remedy is also effective in cases of sialorrhea caused by a gastric or esophageal tumor.
When to see a doctor?
Medical consultation is required in case of pain when salivating, insufficient or absence of saliva. Swelling under the jaw or inflammation of the salivary glands also requires medical attention. Aspiration pneumonia caused by the presence of saliva in the lungs can be prevented from being treated. In case of severe pain, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
